In 2/ 08, our basement flooded. We didnt have a waterproof system, so everything was torn out. The contractor put in a baseboard, trench, and sump pump (with battery and backup pump). He verbally warranted his work for life and said it would be in writing when he is paid in full. Last week, the pump stopped working. We called the contractor and a new pump was installed. Tonight, we went downstairs and there was an inch of water on the floor. We immediately called the contractor. He told us that the pump had failed and went to get a new one. He told us that he had originally installed a 1/3 pump and it couldnt handle the workload. To hopefully fix it, he installed a 1.5 horsepower pump...

Do you know of any, to the point, accurate, web sites that explain colors and positioning of feng shui (sp?). We are picking out our colors tomorrow for the house. I know almost nothing about feng shui at this point, however have heard that it is connected with your zodiac in some ways. Are there any web sites that explain this so I can figure out what my elements mean in my house.  Read More →

As part of my purchase contract I have spent 0 for a thorough home inspection of a duplex. Now that we learned of the termite infestation and wood rot, you’d think i’m out of there, but I’m still interested in the property IF, IF I can be sure to ELIMINATE the TERMITES & determine the extent of damage, and get ALL the rot taken care of at the SELLERS EXPENSE. How do I proceed? Am I expecting too much? The seller seems to be prepared to correct the problems — What’s he best approach since we don’t really know yet the extent of the damage. will professional termite treatment really eliminate ALL termites currently infecting building, and keep new from...

I am building new home and thinking of installing radiant heat. I am only interested in putting it on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the house. Also, the type of boiler I am looking at is the "on-demand" hotwater. What are the pros and cons of radiant heat. I am not using electric as it is way too expensive here in Alaska.  Read More →

I am hunting for a house. The seller’s disclosure statement says the house is under a transferable termites bond for re-treatment and repair. The transfer cost is , and annual cost to maintain is 4. What is this? Does it mean the house is infected by termites? Do I have to be worried about this?  Read More →

We are buying a house and yesterday was the termite inspection. All was well until the inspector found some termites outside in a 2×6 piece of wood that had been laying on the ground. He then failed the house, gave the current owner a bill for over 00 and told us the house would have to be treated and the concrete would have to be drilled into before he could pass the house. It sounds fishy to me since there were no termites in/under the house. The house was treated a few years ago and the lifespan of the treatment is 10 years. Do you think this guy was a scam artist? I just thought I would add that I know it is now the sellers problem, and he knows that it is his responsibility to get a...

I would like to know what is the best chemical to spray on kitchen cabinet made of timber to prevent termite attack. The chemical should be non or very low toxic against human, last several years (5 years), preferably a termite repellant, not a termiticide. Thank you.
