I’ve owned my home since July 2002. When I bought the home, I had a termite company inspect and treat (?…drilled holes in front & back porch & areas of the slab foundation and-I think-put in chemicals to keep termites away). I’ve never had termites, and I continue to pay a little under 0 for a yearly inspection by the same company. This year, the cost has been raised to 0. I got some shelves made from some pinewood recycled from packaging boxes, so the wood is not really high grade, bit suits the application. My worry is that the wood won’t last too long in the climate where I live- hot and humid. Secondly I have also heard that the soft wood is prone to white-ants and termite. We are about to purchase a property in a very good neighbourhood. The house is old and we pretty much bought for block value.
