I got some shelves made from some pinewood recycled from packaging boxes, so the wood is not really high grade, bit suits the application. My worry is that the wood won’t last too long in the climate where I live- hot and humid. Secondly I have also heard that the soft wood is prone to white-ants and termite. Is there any treatment I can do on the shelves to make them last longer, any advise will be helpful. Related Blogs Related Blogs on Can someone help me with Pinewood furniture treatment? We are planning on living there for 5 years and then building a new house on the block. We have just received the termite report and I am wanting some opinions and clarification on the following (please!) : No live termites were found, no visible damage etc was found, however he has ticked the ‘yes’ box which says ‘evidence of possible previous termite treatment found’ also that termite shields/barriers are generally ‘inadequate’ ….. i know studies have shown that fiprinil can be lethal to bees. but when used to treat termites, it’s applied 6" below the ground in a "trench," then covered with soil. seepage is minimal and the product dries quickly. does anyone out there know if fiprinil applied in this fashion is harmful to bees? i want a treatment that will eliminate the termites but still be as environmentally friendly as possible. i’m also thinking of becoming a beekeeper … therefore i want a form of termite control that won’t kill the bees. thanks for any answers. We are in the process of buying a home which is 3 years old and we noted there is a 3 foot long termite tunnel on an outside wall about 2 feet from the ground. The house is on a slab. Incidentally we had the house inspected and there are no other major problems. Since the seller wont pay for it, and we want the house, can someone tell us an approximate cost to apply a treatment for the termites. Thanks. Read More →
