My real estate agent (who I cant reach right now) informed me that I need to pay 00 for termites before we can close on the house. I am very much in the dark, and have not yet seen a termite report, but the amount of money sounds like an actual treatment is to be done. I read that many FHA lenders require termite inspection, but do they also require the termite treatment to be paid for in order to close on the deal? This is a short sale and the seller is not paying for the treatment. I would like to delay the treatment for a few months, if possible.  Read More →

I’ve owned my home since July 2002. When I bought the home, I had a termite company inspect and treat (?…drilled holes in front & back porch & areas of the slab foundation and-I think-put in chemicals to keep termites away). I’ve never had termites, and I continue to pay a little under 0 for a yearly inspection by the same company. This year, the cost has been raised to 0. Is it worth it to keep having the yearly inspection when all the guy appears to do is walk around looking at the inside and outside of my home. What do I need to know about termite control so that I can justify continuing to pay for this service?  Read More →

We are about to purchase a property in a very good neighbourhood. The house is old and we pretty much bought for block value. We are planning on living there for 5 years and then building a new house on the block. We have just received the termite report and I am wanting some opinions and clarification on the following (please!) : No live termites were found, no visible damage etc was found, however he has ticked the ‘yes’ box which says ‘evidence of possible previous termite treatment found’ also that termite shields/barriers are generally ‘inadequate’ ….. Is this a huge issue? Because the house has very little value, I don’t feel like I should...

Orange Oil treatment for termites, does it work? Have had two estimates for termite treatment one company reccomends tenting and another will do Orange Oil treatment for a third of the cost. Or just replace the wood that is damaged and do a good paint job.  Read More →

i know studies have shown that fiprinil can be lethal to bees. but when used to treat termites, it’s applied 6" below the ground in a "trench," then covered with soil. seepage is minimal and the product dries quickly. does anyone out there know if fiprinil applied in this fashion is harmful to bees? i want a treatment that will eliminate the termites but still be as environmentally friendly as possible. i’m also thinking of becoming a beekeeper … therefore i want a form of termite control that won’t kill the bees. thanks for any answers.  Read More →

I bought my house 4 years ago. Every year a pest control agency comes to inspect for termites and charges . I pay it happily, thinking it’s like insurance. This time, they’re saying I’m due for my 5 Year Boost termite treatment at the tune of 0. I don’t have any paperwork from the home seller. Am I being played? Living in Florida, I’m afraid to not get it.  Read More →

We are in the process of buying a home which is 3 years old and we noted there is a 3 foot long termite tunnel on an outside wall about 2 feet from the ground. The house is on a slab. Incidentally we had the house inspected and there are no other major problems. Since the seller wont pay for it, and we want the house, can someone tell us an approximate cost to apply a treatment for the termites. Thanks.  Read More →
